Jerry Bussell (President, Bussell Lean Associates, LLC) has been formally recognized as one of the top lean practitioners and leaders in North America. Jerry has a strong track record of leading and advising others how to implement highly successful lean transformations in many different industries. He is respected as a lean thought leader and coach and is a highly sought after advisor and keynote speaker on a global basis. He is currently the executive advisor for Underwriters Laboratories “Knowledge Services Business and Center for Continuous Improvement.”
In April, 2011, Jerry completed a highly successful career in manufacturing operations with Medtronic. He served as Vice President of Operational Excellence and Vice President of Global Operations at Medtronic Surgical Technologies. Jerry was involved in successful public offerings, and international and domestic manufacturing operations startups during his career at Medtronic, Bristol Myers Squib, Allergan , International Hydron and Kraft Foods.
Under Jerry’s direction, the Medtronic Jacksonville facility was named one of the Ten Best Plants in North America in 2002 and awarded the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence in 2003. The Jacksonvile facility also received the Shingo silver medallion in 2010. Jerry received Medtronic’s highest leadership recognition the Wallin Award in 2003 for creating a national model for lean manufacturing. In 2005, Jerry was inducted into the Shingo Academy for outstanding contributions to operations excellence.
He served as the chairman of the Board of Governors for Shingo Prize and continues to serve on the board. He is the Founder and Director Emeritus of the Jacksonville Lean Consortium. Jerry is on the Executive Advisory Board for the engineering school at the University of North Florida. He is a member of the Association of Manufacturing Excellence’s Champions Club. He has served on the Board of Directors for First Coast Manufacturing Association and Worksource. He has also served on the Chamber of Commerce’s Cornerstone for Economic Development.
Jerry is currently writing a book titled Anatomy of a Lean Leader as Illustrated by Abraham Lincoln and Modern CEOs. This book will be available in October 2012.
Jerry received a B.A. from St John Fisher College and an M.B.A from Baylor University.
